Touted as an â€œall-in-one toolset,â€� Adobe Audition 3 (Windows-only) provides recording, mixing, editing and mastering of audio files and includes some basic video integration. Version 3 has undergone considerable â€œunder-the-hoodâ€� work to enhance performance and responsiveness. Audition is now fully multicore compatible, splitting up processing among multiple cores. Improvements in disk I/O buffering have made read/write operations faster and both the mix architecture and effects handling are more efficient. I performed testing on a 2.13 GHz dual-core PC running Windows XP SP2 and driving an M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard.

Adobe purchased Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro in 2003 and renamed it Audition. In 2006, the powerhouse Audition 2 included ASIO driver support, a redesigned GUI that broke from the standard Windows look, VST support and improved mastering tools and effects. Many of the time-based effects in Audition use the Radius time-stretching/pitch-shifting engine from iZotope, a top-shelf algorithm also used by Sony, Cakewalk and Digidesign.

Audition requires about 500 MB of hard-disk space, and a 5 GB Loopology DVD with more than 5,000 bass, drum and guitar loops covering many genres is included. The caliber of this sample collection impressed me, and the retail box also includes an excellent 322-page user guide with detailed instructions and tips for using Audition 3’s myriad features. Once installed, the software requires activation over the Internet or phone.

Multi AV Scan All of us know that we cannot count on one antivirus to 100% protect us from computer virus. Since one antivirus can’t protect us, installing two or more antivirus should offer better protection right? Well logically yes but technically no because antivirus software nowadays are so complex and they’d conflict with each other causing crashes and blue screens. If we’re talking about installing two antivirus 15 years ago on Windows 95, then it’s possible. I remembered running PC-Cillin and Norman back then and no problems at all.

The only way we can put multiple antivirus software on a computer is if we can disable the real-time protection, self-defense and only use it for on-demand scanning. Well if we wanted to scan a single file using on-demand scan, we could upload it to Virustotal and have it scan with 40 antivirus but the problem is Virustotal distributes the file to antivirus company. Trojan coders usually wouldn’t use Virustotal because obviously they don’t want their trojan to get detected.

I recently found a tool called Multi AV Scan developed by Gakh from HackHound that allows you to run on-demand scan using 10 types antivirus on your computer.

Multi AV Scan currently supports A-Squared, Avira AntiVir, BitDefender, ClamWin, DrWeb, Ikarus, McAfee, Solo, Sophos and VBA32. There are a few similar tools such as Multi AV Fixer, KIMS, ScanLix and Mini AV Scanner but they are all no longer in development except Multi AV Scan.

Once Wi-Fi defense is installed it scans your network and presents to you a list of devices (computers) and ask you if they are Friend, Foe, or Unknown. It gives you their IP address, MAC address, Net Name, and manufacturer. From that information you can figure out if they are Friend or Foe to allow them on the network.

If Unknown you certainly don t want them. If someone need tries to piggy-back onto your signal a pop-up window will alert you and ask you if they are Friend, Foe, or Unknown. It worked on both my 802.11g and b cards. If you find in the future you want to change the classification of visitor (you were mistaken, or they just ticked you off) you can edit the visitor or delete them from the list.

Clicking on Wireless Security gives you options for Notification, that will have it tell you when someone new is scanned on the network. The Security tab lets you enable router security. Wi-Fi Defense is truly just a scanning programwhich will tell you when someone is accessing your network, until you enable the router security.

I change my setting for my main computerWi-Fi defense options menu from friend to foe. It only change the color setting but, did not kick it off. If you are using a wireless access point in conjunction with a router (two separate pieces of equipment), make sure you put the address of your access point into the Access Point Address field on the Network tab. Once security is enabled if you need to add new visitors (friends) then you can click on Add Friend To Network wizard.

You can run reports on visitors to see when they came on and how long they were there. Network report shows the MAC address, when they were first there and the amount of time on the network. Visitors will be listed in one of two groups, either Connected or Not Connected. The Vulnerability Report shows a chart of how many hours each day a foe was detected on your network in the time period you select.
